Message from the Principal

Commencement of 2020 School Year

In 2020, the school office will be open the day after the Australia Day holiday for general enquiries from Tuesday, 28 January. Term 1, 2020 commences for students on Monday, 3 February.

The 2020 class lists will be displayed on mobile display boards in the central courtyard from 1.00pm-4.00pm on Friday, 31 January. In the event that parents/caregivers are unable to get to school between 1.00-4.00pm, please consider other options e.g. making arrangements with another parent/caregiver to take note on their behalf or to take a photo of the class list and send it through via SMS, put through a phone call or send an email to the office.

However, I would like to remind parents/caregivers that these class structures are always temporary arrangements for the first few weeks of the school year until School Census is complete. Consequently, there may be a need to alter the proposed structure to cater for arriving/departing students early in the school year. Please do not mark any items of personal equipment with the teacher's name or room number as these are subject to confirmation. Parents/caregivers will be informed early in the year via the school newsletter, The Smartlink message, email and/or letter home once classroom arrangements have been confirmed for the 2020 school year.

2020 anticipated numbers and 2020 staffing and class structures

Thank you to all members of the school community for tending to the Student Enrolment Survey at the start of the term. Based on the information we have collected; it appears that our total school population for the commencement of the 2020 year will be around 670. At this stage, we will commence the school year with a 29 class arrangement from Kindy-Year 6. However, as stated above, this will be subject to change depending on student arrival and departure.

It is with mixed emotions that I acknowledge the pending retirement of two foundation staff members of Maylands Peninsula PS- Mrs Robyn Trend (Physical Education) and Madame Heidi Kellner- Marshall (LOTE- French). Robyn and Heidi have respectively given 28 and 27 years of service to the WA public schooling system, the last 16 of these years at Maylands Peninsula PS. They are much valued and respected members of staff who have gone about their work with professionalism and integrity. They will be sorely missed at the commencement of the new school year in 2020. On behalf of the school community, I would like to thank Robyn and Heidi for their years of dedication and service to the families of our school and wish them well as they embark on the exciting journey ahead.

With some permanent staff returning to Maylands Peninsula PS in the new year, I'd like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of Mr Peter Helfgott (S3) for his contribution to our school and wish him well for the years ahead. I would also like to wish Mrs Breanna Pitsonis all the best as she prepares for the upcoming birth of Baby No 1. Mrs Pitsonis has been a part of our school community since 2013 and has contributed greatly to the fabric of our school. On behalf of the school community, I'd like to thank Mrs Pitsonis and acknowledge the fine work that has not only taken place in S2 this year, but in all the years that she has been with us, and wish her well on the exciting journey she is about to undertake. Her commitment to the students and families of Maylands Peninsula PS during this time has been nothing short of first-class.

As one staff member leaves to commence Parental Leave, I'd like to welcome back Ms Nicole Sloan (S8) and Mrs Louise Banner (Kindy B) who are returning to school staff after Parental Leave. I would also like to welcome Mrs Renae Murphy (Kindy A/B), Mrs Phyllis Vimini (JP2), Mrs Vanessa Lake (M3), Mr Matthew Davey (S8) and Mrs Veronica Schunck (LOTE- Italian) who will be joining our staff for the first time in 2020.
