School Houses

In 2015, we had a competition to name our four factions and to design crests that best represented the name. The winning proposal named the four houses after prominent individuals who either lived or worked in the Maylands district. They are:

Brearley- Named after Sir Norman Brearley who was a pioneer of the airline industry within Australia. He ran the first airline in Western Australia at the old Maylands Aerodrome located on the Maylands peninsula.

Hardey- Named after Joseph Hardey- the first European to settle in the Maylands district. He established Peninsula Farm and built Tranby House in 1839, which still stands today on the banks of the Swan River.

Ferguson- Named after Mephan Ferguson, who possibly named Maylands after his aunt and sister, May. He built the Ferguson Foundry (Falkirk) which produced the water pipes for CY O'Connor's Kalgoorlie pipeline.

Venville- Named after Georgina Alma Venville who grew up and lived most of her life in Maylands. Councillor of the City of Stirling and Mayor from 1974-76. She received an OAM for service to children with visual and learning disabilities.
