Harmony Day

The school celebrated Harmony Week in style this week. It was wonderful walking around the school and seeing so many students in national dress or wearing orange in support. Thanks to Mrs White and Mrs Wylde for coordinating activities throughout the week.

Congratulations to the following winners in each year level for the poetry competition:

  • Year 1- Riley Simmons
  • Year 2- Rohaan Dadarkar
  • Year 3- Noah Murphy/Oliver Newling
  • Year 4- Isabelle Becker
  • Year 5- Molly Williams
  • Year 6- Mikayla O'Sullivan

At the mini assembly that took place this morning, a group of poets presented a selection of poems to Year 1 – 6 students.

Liz Mistry has a streak of creativity. She has a background in nursing and trained in art therapy using varied art forms including poetry, story, myth, ritual and meditation to navigate the soul and psyche. Liz trained in drama in her youth and loves the stage. Poetry is a form of personal expression for Liz - painting with words.

Another outlet for voice is by movement, and Liz's words will be interpreted and turned into movement via Kala. Kala has a background in classical Indian dance, and Kala will interpret words into Indian classical postures.

Elio Novello writes poetry and is part of the Perth Poetry Club collective. His subject matter tends to revolve around religion, mathematics, physics, the environment and other social issues, but for Harmony Week, he will talk about garbage bins, Willie Wagtails, and public transport!
