Andrew Thomson
2022 School Board candidate

Andrew Thomson

Please accept this letter as an expression of interest in joining the Maylands Peninsula Primary School Board. .

I am a father of two young children, my eldest in Pre-Primary, and have a passion for early education and promoting progressive education practices. My wife and I are in the early stages of guiding our children through the education system and I want to use my experience and skills to assist in providing them, and their peers, the best opportunities and experience possible at Maylands Peninsula Primary School.

I am currently employed as the Manager of Rail Operations for Australia's largest cooperative, where I serve the community of 3,700 farmers that own the company. My role is to provide sustainable value to the farmers of Western Australia through the management of the Rail Operations Team to lead the safety, operation, reliability, and maintenance of the companies' locomotives, grain wagons, and associated rail infrastructure.

In my role I seek to find growth and value for the cooperative through initiatives which require working closely with many stakeholders including government departments, infrastructure providers, contractors' multinational corporations, and the public. My focus on addressing the needs and wellbeing of a large cooperative of stakeholders aligns with the role of the Board; to work with the community to achieve the best outcomes for the students as our leaders of the future.

Furthermore, I am a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia which requires strict adherence to a Code of Ethics that is based around the themes of professionalism, community service, sustainability, and integrity.

With my extensive career in engineering, management, leadership, risk, and governance, in both the public and private sectors, I believe that I am duly suited as a member of the Maylands Peninsula Primary School Board. My experience in several the key areas of the Boards, such as setting direction and monitoring risk and performance, demonstrates my ability to contribute to the success of Maylands Peninsula Primary School.

I am confident that I can make an immediate and valuable contribution to the Maylands Peninsula Primary School Board and thank you for your consideration of my application.
